Roy Dearden died on 28th August 2024 aged 80. He had been very ill with oesophageal cancer since May and he died in a nursing home close to me in Oxford. I know he had many good ski holidays with the SCoM including last year. There will be a small family funeral here in Oxford on Thursday 19th September which will also be live streamed, if anyone is interested.
I intend to give him more of a celebration of his life at some point next year in Abersoch. As you probably know, sailing was his other passion.
Rosemary Tilly Dearden
Roy was an early member of the Ski Club of Great Britain, attending the exercise classes at the College of Building. He also helped with leading the exercises.
His parents house in Alderley Edge was the venue for SCGB parties.
In his early days, Roy was reluctant to travel by air, so he didn't come on Ski Club holidays abroad.
He was a champion of skiing in the Peak District, Lake District, Cairngorms, and grass skiing on Werneth Low.
Roy has always been retiring but practical and helpful. He had a previous episode of cancer, from which he recovered.
I can remember him coming to a party at our house when his hair was beginning to come back after treatment.
He has been a loyal Club member for 50 years.
