Fly On The Wall - October Committee Meeting

Reporter: Vanessa Miller

Following on from the AGM on the 5th October, the committee had its first meeting at Ian’s house. We were treated to a glass of prosecco to celebrate all the hard work that had been done during 2011/2012 and to toast the 2012/2013 season. I would not want you to think that committee meetings are always like that, we normally start with a cup of tea.

Anyway we got straight down to business with a full agenda. We looked at the committee roles and ways of assisting committee members with their workloads particularly the secretary's role and agreed that we should seek out an assistant secretary. We also discussed how we could recruit more committee members or co-opt people in to assist (as committee members need to be voted in at the AGM). We agreed that Ian, Vanessa and John would consider this separately and report back to the committee.

Any volunteers prepared to organise something are always welcome, you don't have to be a member of the committee, just approach any of us with your ideas.

We talked about the winter programme and finalising venues and speakers for the Friday night meetings. We have to agree and publicise these in the newsletter so lots of activity going on around this. Christine (editor) is looking to finalise dates for summer events and will be asking prior organisers if they are prepared to do again and offer dates etc. so expect that contact.

We talked about the buddy system and relaunch and acknowledged that we have 2 new buddies Debra Bookbinder and Maria Robson which is great.

Janet produced her usual budget/accounts details which assumed that most members would rejoin this year but we did identify an issue surrounding people not confirming that they had changed standing orders for this seasons increased subs. We agreed a newsflash was in order to remind people and it looks like it has prompted people to sort this out. Overall if we collect all the subs in there shouldn’t be a deficit this year.

We are also still talking to SCGB about the payment they make to us each year for members who are also SCoM members. There has been some suggestion by them that this may stop. Alan is to have a meeting with their chief exec. to discuss.

Dave reported on the status of the club holidays and advised that he had been in contact with both St Christoph and Meribel ski pass offices to try and arrange a bulk deal for cheaper passes, not finalised yet but watch this space. We are also looking at ski/boot hire via Inghams.

We looked at the recent suggestion of the Landgraff trip (snow dome in Holland) and agreed to look at it again next year via Debra who kindly looked into it for this season. In did not take place this time for various reasons but we did get some interest. We all agreed that there is no reason why other members cannot try and organise small trips outside of officially organised trips if they wish. The committee can help here by posting on Newsflash.

Well, finally the new season is nearly here, so don't forget Johns Chill Factore sessions to practise and we will hopefully see a lot of you at the Christmas meal, see details in newsletter.
