Fly On The Wall At The Last Committee Meeting
Reporter: Barry Lewis
The recent committee meeting was the last before the AGM, 9th October at Chill Factore, and inevitably discussion focused on that and the forthcoming year. Surprise, surprise, there is not yet a queue of members jostling to gain places on the committee, all of whose existing members would welcome new blood, even at the expense of relinquishing their own places. Members can be proposed before or at the AGM and anyone willing to stand should speak to Alan Brown or any other committee member.
Member involvement and the wish to increase it was very much the underlying theme of the evening. One result is that as last year there will be an open discussion forum following the AGM at which members can raise with the committee or just for general discussion any issue which they wish.
On the same track the committee approved a new development plan for the club, agreeing that the first item for action would be communication with and involvement of members. When you talk to members it soon becomes apparent that they enjoy wide-ranging interests beyond skiing and have a multitude of different skills. How can we harness those to the benefit of the club and the enjoyment of members? Overall, the plan seeks to map out the ways in which we should to take the club forward over the next two or three years. Ian Harford, our chairman, will talk briefly on this at the discussion forum.
Because of our special relationship with Trafford MBC through our accreditation with "Trafford Mark", we will have some free advertising within the Borough shortly. If this, or interest from existing or other prospective members, generated enough interest in classes for beginners we would try to establish these through the club, aiming to get individuals to a level where they might join our regular Chill Factore sessions. (Unlike our regular sessions, instruction could not be free.) Friends or family who might be interested? Get them to contact Alan Brown or a committee member.
Hope to see you at the AGM and for the talk/social afterwards. You could also ski beforehand!
